Pot O' Gold
This week the Lloyds were proud tartin' the green!! Just a "note" about this week...
Nathanael started training with his soccer team this week. He has a great time playing soccer and the season is starting soon! One of Nat's projects for school this week was to create a 3D scene from a book. He chose, A Tale of Two Cities, and I was very impressed with how much detail and thought that he put into making it great. I just wish he would care that much about all of his assignments! Go figure.
Lindsay tried out for the musical theater class for next year. Nat had done it in eighth grade and had had a really good experience participating in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". She had to prepare a song and a monologue. She sang, "Goodnight My Someone" from, "The Music Man". She came home the next day and in a shaky voice told me of some friends that had made it. Because of her shaky voice, I thought that maybe she was about to cry because she did not make it-but then she smiled big and said, "So did I!" and laughed because she had tricked me! I think that she will have a lot of fun in that next year!
Ethan had his last week of rehearsals before the school play "Young King Arthur" next week. He is one of the many minions and enjoys thinking of new ways to "go down!"
Clarissa really enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day. As a family we have a little treasure hunt and then we get together with Travis' family for a dinner of corn beef and cabbage, soda bread, and Shepard's Pie. Clarissa said that it had been fun at school because a leprechaun had messed up their classroom and sent them on a little hunt where they got a little treasure! Before we ate dinner, a story about an Irish ancestor family was told to the children. Both Travis and I have Irish heritage. This story was about James McDonald and Sarah Ferguson. It is an inspirational story, however, at the end my mother-in-law told how Sarah was little and feisty and made her family clean out their wagon because it was getting so messy as they were coming across the plains. When she told that little detail-Clarissa turned around and looked at me! I started to laugh-I knew she was thinking, "That sounds just like my mom!". After I laughed she laughed too because I was right! It is so funny because Sarah is not my ancestor but I can sure identify with her!
Zachary has had a cold this week and so he has been extra clingy. It has been difficult to get anything done! Oh, well! Life goes on and I just need to remember to put first things first. I need to remember to focus on the important things and worry about getting those done!
My "moment of joy" this week came when we were talking about the McDonald ancestors. I feel so grateful for their example and the example of my own ancestors for accepting the gospel of Jesus Christ and making all the sacrifices that they did to "build up the kingdom". It makes me want to do all that I can to "build up the kingdom" today! Their legacy is truly a "treasure"!

Wahoo!
The Lloyds had some "noteworthy" things happen this week...
Nat has worked so hard for so many months and was able to make the Freshman soccer team for Lone Peak high school!!! Wahoo! He has the heart of an athlete and loves and appreciates sports-he just has to work a little harder than others to accomplish his goals when it comes to sports. He has some ability but then he works so hard to get better! I daresay that no one worked as hard as he did to try out and make it on that team!! Nat found out at school and when he got home, he went downstairs to confirm that his number was on the list and I got to see them embrace-Travis was soooo excited for him!

Lindsay had a semi-annual interview with a member of our bishopric this week. Afterward, he came out and told me what an amazing young lady she is-something that I already knew! I told him that we call her "Lindsay Poppins" at home because she is "practically perfect in every way". I am so grateful that she is my daughter! Wahoo!
Ethan got strep throat for the first time in his life this week! He had all the classic symptoms of sore throat, headache, and fever. We were able to get him diagnosed and medicated. He started feeling better right away! I am so grateful for modern medicine! Wahoo!
Clarissa was looking forward to some fun plans that we had as a family and totally cleaned her room so that she could go! She actually put things right where they belong instead of just stuffing everything into her closet! Wahoo!
Zachary is learning to say a few words and communicate. One of the ways he is learning to communicate is by using his "angry eyes!" Zachary's growing so fast it's awesome and I am happy that he is becoming a little more independent. Having said that, there is also part of me that is a little sad that that part of my life is over (having my own little babies). I know that our family is complete but it is hard for me to realize that I need to "grow up" and that I am getting older! I am not that young little mother that I used to be and still feel like in my own mind! So even though I really don't want to be starting over with new little ones, I am struggling to really accept that I do have teenagers and I am not as young as I used to be! Wahoo?
My "moment of joy" this week was when I saw Nathanael and Zachary outside. Nat was lifting Zac up so that he could put a ball through the basketball hoop. Nat was so good with Zac and I just thought that it was so sweet!

Back to the Eighties?
Just a few "notes" on the Lloyd children this week...
Nathanael participated in the Grand Concert at the junior high school. He is in the Concert Singers. This concert was Thursday and Friday night and the Symphonic Band and orchestra also participated. It was a program to showcase the music programs at the school as well as raise money for these programs. It was a good concert and I really enjoyed it. Nat really enjoys singing in the choir as well.
Lindsay has been working on getting ready to apply for student council this last week. I am so glad that she is confident enough to put herself out there! I sure wasn't like her at that age! Speaking of being her age, Friday was "Eighties Day" at the junior high. Nat and Lindsay decided to dress up and it was scary!!! I was about their age in the late Eighties and I remember thinking that our styles were so much better than the Seventies-if you can believe it! I think back now to how UGLY those styles were and can't believe I thought they were so cute. Travis helped Nat do his hair-although it was not long enough to cooperate very well. Nat rolled up his pants at the bottom and told us that we must have been crazy because it felt so annoying! I helped Lindsay with her hair and outfit. She wore a t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up twice. She wore a belt around the t-shirt and she also rolled up her jeans. She also wore a denim jacket with the collar sticking up. The best part was her hair. I curled her bangs under and then "ratted" them a little so that they made that lovely "arch" I then put "wings" on the sides just like I used to do with my hair-eeeeew! When she walked out to go to school, Travis and I thought that we had stepped back in time! How scary (Lindsay is always beautiful-but her style was frightening!) I just cannot believe that my oldest kids are teenagers-weird!
Ethan played his last Jr. Jazz basketball game this morning for the season. He spent a lot of time on the floor this game fighting for the ball! He has decided that he loves basketball just about as much as he loves soccer.
Clarissa went to a "beach" party at the elementary school yesterday. They were celebrating all the extra reading they had done in February. She found a little friend and had a great time. Travis was exhausted by the time it ended-he got to chase Zachary and keep track of Clarissa. She ended up putting her pajamas over her swimming suit and I did not know until this morning when I told her to get dressed. She basically slept in her swimsuit last night!
Zachary has been a real "grump" this week. He has not been sleeping well and so I am not sleeping well. He also has been very clingy. I think that I figured out what the problem is-he is cutting his two top teeth. Ouch! I have been trying to give him some pain medication and he seems to be doing better. I am so grateful for modern medicine!
My "moment of joy" this week came at the end of Nat's concert last night. They sang a tribute to all of the armed forces and part of the piece was singing the songs from the different divisions of the military. They asked that individuals stand when they sang the song for which they were a part. I watched those people stand and I felt so grateful as we all clapped for them. It brought tears to my eyes when one marine stood up behind me. It made me miss my Grandpa McMillan. I also felt so grateful that I live here. I know that our country is far from perfect and we have a lot of problems-but I really am proud to be an American!
